DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz at Netroots Nations

Lunchtime Friday at NN11, aka the 2011 Netroots Nation convention for bloggers, and US Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20) is our speaker in her new role as chair of the Democratic National Committee.

As might be expected, she urged this audience of some 2,000 progressives to do all we can to re-elect President Obama in 2012.

Down the hall, Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas was spotted in an interview with Sam Seder.

The keynote speaker Thursday evening was former Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, whose loss in last year’s nationwide Democratic debacle was a big loss to progressives, and his speech honed in on the reason for his loss: money in politics and the Citizens United decision in the Supreme Court that unleashed a torrent of it.

“Speech doesn’t corrupt. Money does. And money isn’t speech,” Feingold said, and he argued that the Democratic Party must “stand up to its ideals” and not accept money from the so-called Super-PACs.
“It’s dancing with the devil, and it’s a game we will not win,” Feingold said.
